WEEK 3 - RUSSELL COUNTY

 Cardinal fans….

There is a term in football called “Winning Ugly.”  It just means that sometimes you play a game where you really don’t play very well. You make a lot of mistakes that causes your opponent to take advantage of you, but somehow, someway, you find a way to win at the end.  That’s exactly what happened to our Cardinals last Friday night in the “Martin’s Peterbilt Bowl” against Knox Central.  However, all of us would much rather “Win Ugly,”  than ”Lose Pretty.”  The Cardinals are 2 and 0 on the young season and we will take it.

Week 3 brings a different challenge. The “Lakers”of Russell County. First,  it’s probably our longest road trip of the season. Learning how to win on the road is a whole ’nother lesson in and of itself. Last Friday was a big win in front of the home crowd with friendly fans. Now we go to a big stadium full of people that will be cheering for us to lose. We have to learn how to overcome a lot of adversity, if we’re gonna have any chance of going to 3-0 on the season.

The Lakers are a very talented football team. They’re under the new head coach Stephen French, who has been around very good football in Central Kentucky for many many years. We had some colossal battles some years ago when he was at Southwestern, and I was at Pulaski. It will be a major challenge for our young team.

But to get a win on the road against a good Russell County team, we have to clean up a lot of issues. We have to clean up things such as penalties, mistake alignments, broken tackles, and I could go on and on. We feel like we have the potential to be a really good team, but we are work-in-progress. But there’s no time like the present, and there’s a new level of intensity we’re gonna have to bring, on Friday night in that big new stadium in Jamestown.  Y’all make plans to join us for this hunting trip…..
