WEEK 5 - ESTILL COUNTY

 Cardinal fans….

As a college player (at Georgetown) I had a great coach named Kevin Donnelly. (He’s still coaching  by the way at St. Francis University in Indiana. He’s the all-time winningest coach in NAIA football.).  One of the many lessons he taught me was ….

“You can’t worry about what you can’t control”

This week has been something way out of our control. It’s always unfortunate to have to cancel a game, but we’re gonna do the best we can to pick up another game in our open week on down the road.  However, we must now turn all of our attention to the Estill County “Engineers”..

Estill County is a very solid football team. They have a big strong running game, and are very tough upfront. They do a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage, controlling the clock, and holding the ball away from our offense  Defensively, we have to do a great job, stopping their running game and force them into long yardage situations. Offensively, we have to clean up our execution mistakes. We were very frustrated with ourselves in our last game, because we could not convert on fourth down in short yardage situatuons, in the red zone on several occasions. Toughness plays. Those, “We’re tougher than you are” plays. Those are plays we have to win, to win games. Converting on 4th and short in the red zone, usually means we’re going to put points on the board. This is an area that we have to improve on if we’re gonna have a chance to beat Estill County.

It’ll be a fun night. After all the adversity that everyone has dealt with in the past week, I hope that everybody’s excited about coming out to Gilliam Stadium for a big night of high school football on Friday night (the 20th). Be prepared, wear your red and black, get loud & rowdy, and let’s go #HUNT for win number 3….
