WEEK 2 - KNOX CENTRAL
Cardinal fans,
After the first week of the season, half the teams in the state are 0-1, and the other half are 1-0. It was our goal last week to be in that upper half. I’m really proud of our football team and coaches, and the great effort and desire that they show every single day. Improvements come in drastic amounts in each and every practice. We’re looking to get back on that practice field and see how much improvement we can make.
Now we set our sites on the ”Panthers” of Knox Central. They are a typical Mountain football team, in that they are extremely big upfront and like to run the ball, waste as much time as they can, and hold the ball, for most of the game. it can be frustrating to deal with. We have to do a better job defensively upfront this week to slow down that run game.
On offense, we have to execute much better. We had a chance to put the game away last week in the second half and really stubbed our toes.
Lots of experts claim that the most improvement in a football team is usually made between games one and two. If that’s the case, then we should be something to see Friday night at home in Gilliam Stadium. Make plans to come on out, the first game of the doubleheader will be Williamsburg versus Bourbon County. We will play Central in the nightcap.
It is also “Senior Night” Friday night. We want to celebrate our senior class as it is their final season of ever playing high school football for the South Laurel Cardinals. Make plans to be a part of the celebration as we recognize our four seniors (Jose’ Puledo, Noah Smith, James Cox & Braylon Sizemore) in the pregame ceremonies.
Always an exciting time, always an exciting opportunity to hunt…
