The “Off-Season” Program
Many football games are won in the ”Off-Season.” The start of football is many months away. We have many phases yet to go through. Spring practice, summer training, training camp, and finally the football season will eventually begin in late August. The “Off-Season” program is the first phase of the new season.
The off-season program runs from January 1-Spring Practice. It is specifically designed with three objectives, and we want 100% of our players to achieve all three objectives. 1) Be stronger, 2) faster, and 3) more explosive on the field, than we were last season. Training is part of our daily routine. Our players are in the weight room to develop strength, speed, and explosiveness just about every single day. For us to be competitive on a high level, we must be able to compete with teams that are more talented than we are. To do that, we must be the hardest working team on our schedule. We must win games by simply out working teams that are a little more talented than we are. We will develop a dynamic work ethic, and that will carryover to how we play the game in the fall.
Our players have accepted the responsibility of having that work ethic in a great way. They show up every day, they put in the work every day, they’re growing together as a group, and they have a great hunger to be successful on the field next fall. One of the elements we add to the off-season program, is called “The Champions Club.” We simply divide our players up into six different teams. The seniors, are the captains of the teams. Each team is in competition with all the other teams every single day. Each week, we determine a “Champions Club” winner for the week. The team that finishes in last place, has to pick up some extra duties that they won’t necessarily like. (But, you’re in Last Place!. One of our favorite duties is to clean up the locker room) Our players understand that every day, we have to be ready to compete. Don’t just show up, come to COMPETE!
The off-season program is a fun time. Players really enjoy the time they spend breaking a sweat together. And the more success we have in our off-season program, the more success we will have on the field, on Friday nights in the fall.
