TESTING

The “Off-Season” Program is in full swing.  We began that phase of the program back in January.  There are 68 prospective football players involved in our daily training sessions.  We hope to keep them all on the team when we hit the field in August.  One big step in the “Off-Season” Program is “TESTING.”

Testing is a time to check our progress as football players.  We want to know if all this hard work we are doing daily is truly paying off.  One way to do that to “TEST” every player in the course of our “Off-Season” Program.  Our “testing” involves “One Repetition-Maximum Performances” in a variety of lifts and exercises.  These are:

  • Bench Press (1RM Lift)

  • Parallel Squat (1RM Lift)

  • Power Clean (1 RM Lift)

  • Dead Lift (1RM Lift)

  • Dips (Maximum Reps in one Set)

  • Push Ups (Maximum Reps in one Set)

  • Pull Ups (Maximum Reps in one Set)

  • Vertical Jump (Maximum Height from Standing Position)

  • 20 Yard Dash (For Time)

  • 40 Yard Dash (For Time)

These are all indicators of how much improvement has been made.  The results are measured against the previous “test” for each player to measure improvement.

We have also developed a points system for each exercise.  There are rewards for each level of points earned in a Test Session.  We award T shirts.  There are three levels:

  • White Shirts – These are awarded to athletes that attain 10 points or more in a single testing session.

  • Red Shirts – These are awarded to athletes that attain 20 points or more in a single testing session.

  • Black Shirts – These are awarded to athletes that attain 30 points or more in a single testing session.

The shirts are rewards, but they come with a caveat.  The shirts are only for the player.  If a shirt shows up on someone who didn’t earn it…. A buddy…. A girlfriend…. Or whoever, the shirt will be taken back.  It is to be worn with pride by the winner of it, not someone who didn’t earn it. “You can’t buy them at the Wal-Mart.  You earned them with sweat and blood…Wear it with pride.”

We will get some results on here when the “Testing” is complete.  It is an exciting time at Cardinal High!

Also, the countdown clock on the website, is counting down to Spring Practice.
